AW had dementia. The fact he sat with his eyes closed all the time most carers thought was due to the dementia. An eye test was arranged as he had lost his spectacles.
Barbara organized a visit at the time of day when AW was at his best. An eye test revealed that spectacles were needed for distance and near work.
Two pairs of spectacles were dispensed, these were covered by the NHS voucher at no cost to the patient as AW was on the required benefits.
Previously his poor vision made him feel more isolated but after receiving his spectacles, which Barbara delivered and fitted shortly afterwards, AW could see better and so participated more in events around him.
