Dry Eyes
JC complained of irritated eyes at work. A full sight test was carried out to see whether the problem was due to a focussing problem, the way the eyes worked together or caused by an irritation.
A detailed examination revealed dry eyes. This can be caused by the tears evaporating due to environmental conditions (i.e. air conditioning) or due to a lack of blinking when looking at close range, whether it was at papers or with computer work.
Barbara advised using artificial tears regularly and suggested warm compresses, lid massage and increasing the humidity of the surrounding area (i.e. by putting a pot plant on the desk).
Barbara also suggested blinking more and explained the 20:20 rule for blinking- i.e. every 20 minutes to look away for 20 seconds at something in the distance and blink more i.e. the 20:20 rule
